The history of the Fat Bike!

Although the use of oversized tires was visible from the very beginnings of bicycle development, this practice took hold especially from the mid-1980s. The first bicycle with large tires was designed by a French cyclist in 1980. A few years later, a group of Alaskans who practice mountain biking decided to design an all-season bicycle. At the same time in New Mexico, a 2-wheel enthusiast ordered a model of bicycle that could be used in sand dunes. It was first tested in 1999 at the Interbike International Bicycle Expo. In 2001, the “Fatbike” trademark was born. The popularity of the discipline exploded in the early 2010s, with the organization of events and better regulations. Fatbiking remains especially popular in the US and Canada during the winter.

Since 2010, the Fat Bike has appeared in ski resorts in the Alps!
